Experience Morocco as a yogi
We combine the magic of Moroccan culture, cuisine, landscapes and hospitality with top quality yoga equipment & props, as well as perfect daily settings for practices that will leave your students feeling grounded, centered and balanced as they explore this magical country.
Jade & Adil are uniquely qualified to organize and host Moroccan yoga retreats, as Jade is a professional yoga instructor and yoga school owner, and Adil is a National Guide of Morocco and native to the Sahara region.
If you’re a yoga teacher or studio owner looking for a seamless retreat program that makes space for discovery as much as it does for practice, look no further.
The trip at a glance
Retrace the historic route of the Trans-Saharan Trade Route while keeping your yoga practice alive and well on this magical Moroccan adventure! Our 8 day / 8 night journey starts in Marrakech and moves to the Palm Oasis valley of Agdz, nestled at the base of the Atlas Mountains, which we cross on the first day of road tripping. We continue moving south for a 2-night glamping experience in the Moroccan Sahara, including camel trekking, a taste of tribal music and textiles, and exploring ancient kasbahs. En route back to Marrakech, we'll spend a night in the Berber city of Ouarzazate, where you'll have some downtime to take a dip in the pool and sunbathe on the roof terrace. Spend your last three nights in Marrakech, exploring the Moroccan medina life, complete with a tour of the infamous textile markets! During a free day, explore a list of add-on options that feature the luxury of a Moroccan hammam (spa) experience, or visit more of the sights.
Included activities, meals & more
The trip includes round trip airport transfers, 8 days & nights in a shared room/bathroom at all accommodations (2 pax per room); 3 meals per day, plus some snacks and Moroccan mint tea breaks and a lunch picnic in the Sahara dunes; Marrakech medina & souk tour, sunset camel ride, visit to a local women’s weaving co-op; transport in Toyota 4x4 SUV’s with professional drivers and a full-time, English-speaking guide; daily yoga practices with all yoga props & mats included. Our promise to your students
We have an experienced yoga instructor as one of our team’s founding members, so we know what’s important during yoga retreats, and how to make time for it despite a busy itinerary of exploring a new country. We promise to deliver the best locations for daily practices and provide the best quality yoga equipment that we can source. Our mats are MandukaPro yoga mats, made to survive many trips to the Sahara and back. Also available on request are blocks, straps, blankets and bolsters so you can teach to all levels and styles of yoga. To create a complete setting for your classes, we will provide a Bluetooth portable speaker (if you prefer to use music when you teach), incense & candles, and anything else you need or want can most likely be organized to make your retreat special. Some practices are held on rooftops with scenic views, others in the sand on hand-woven Moroccan carpets - but each location is chosen with care and consideration to provide the most magical experience for a heart-opening practice.
Our accommodations
All of our accommodations are shared rooms with ensuite bathrooms, with the exception of the camps in the Sahara, which are shared, permanent-structure tents with real beds & communal bathrooms for the entire camp (Western toilets & private showers are available to use at any time). We offer two types of room situation: 2 single beds for 2 persons, or 1 full bed for 1/2 persons. Occasionally we can organize a triple room for groups of 3 traveling together. Those requesting a single room can do so by paying a surcharge.
Countryside Villa - your first stop in Morocco and accommodations upon returning to Marrakech. We believe that the best place to start is a place where you can decompress and get right with nature. Just a short drive from the airport and the perfect spot for meet & greet and a home-cooked Moroccan dinner. After a Sahara trip, we return to the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, just outside of Marrakech, to retreat again in the countryside, with organized day trips into the city to experience the buzzing energy of a city that has been a mystical trading post for thousands of years.
Kasbahs - these are ancient castle ruins, constructed with bricks made from red clay, which have been beautifully restored into modern day castles. This is your first real experience at Southern Hospitality, so live like a Raja for a short time!
Sahara Camps - our camps are family-owned and follow tribal guidelines for preserving the Saharan culture and community We have two options of camp, depending on your level of luxury for the retreat. You can see more about our camps here and here.
Extra stuff to know & consider
We realize that this might be the one and only time many of these guests travel to Morocco, just based on distance and budget. And we also realize that there’s a lot to check off the “must-see” list in this small but dense country. As we are a full service travel business, it’s our pleasure to help your guests organize their “pre” or “post” travel extensions in Morocco if they are planning to do some additional exploring on their own. Not only can we provide travel advice and custom itinerary planning, but we can also arrange transport, accommodations, local guides & activities, and more. Many of our retreat leaders in the past have even organized “opt-in or out” 4/5 day extensions to visit places like Fes & Chefchaouen (The Blue City) so the group continues on from the Sahara trip after returning back to Marrakech. Options are available, just ask!
