Before you retreat to Bab Zouina for a week of serene beauty, experience the bustle of old Marrakech with a local guide. Your “add-on” includes 2 night’s accommodation in a modern hotel with all the comforts of home & a little Moroccan opulence. Day 1: Arrivals in Marrakech

Meet & greet your fellow travelers at the Marrakech accommodation. Settle in, unwind, wash off the jet lag. We recommend an appointment in the hotel hammam - Arabic for “spa”, where you’ll be fully scrubbed, washed, and massaged - restored to new!

Meals included: None, but dinner can be purchased in the hotel restaurant or many of the walkable restaurants nearby.

Day 2: History & Souks in The Red City

Start your day with a traditional Moroccan breakfast & head out with your local guide to discovery the history of Marrakech, including site visits to a Palace, Koranic School, Spice Market, and the many artisan markets within the old Medina. We’ll include a break for lunch, where you can enjoy some tasty local fare before venturing into the souks (markets) to learn about Moroccan artisan work. The tour will conclude around 5 or 6pm and you'll have some free time in the evening.

Sahara Extension - The “Southern Loop”

Explore the magic of the Sahara desert | Oct 26-30, 2024

Your departure day from Bab Zouina doesn’t have to be the end of your time in Magical Morocco. If you’re with us, we’ll pick you up at 9am for a 5 day & night jaunt to the dunes of Erg Chegaga - the highest and most amazing in the Moroccan desert.

Day 1: Rock the Kasbah & the Draa River Valley

Rise & shine - we’re going on a road trip! Prepare for a 9am departure as we head south to re-trace the steps of the ancient tran-Saharan trade routes. Today’s drive has many stops, including a site visit to a centuries-old Kasbah & an overnight stay in the palm oasis of the Draa River Valley. Our favorite overnight accommodation in Agdz awaits!

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 2: Off-road to Erg Chegaga

Our journey continues South, as we drive beyond the city of Zagora to the last village on the map, M’hamid el Ghizlane - and literally the “end of the road”. We’ll do some off-road driving through the dunes & rocky surface to get to our destination for the next two nights - our nomad camp in Erg Chegaga - the highest dunes of the Moroccan Sahara!

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3: Glamping, Dunes & Nomads in the Sahara

Wake up for the sunrise if you’re an early bird! We’ll have breakfast together and the head out to visit a nomad family, where you’ll learn about their culture and ways of living “off grid”. You’ll also have the chance to see how nomads make bread in a “sand oven”. After lunch, we’ll have some free time before getting ready to ride camels into the sunset & play on the dunes (hello, sandboarding!). End the day around the campfire with our local camp staff for some singing, dancing, and maybe sleep under the stars!

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 4: Moroccan Rugs & the “Hollywood” of Africa

Today we say goodbye to our desert camp and head back to the main road, where we’ll pass the village of Taznakt, a famous place for Moroccan weaving and carpet production. We’ll visit a women’s weaving co-op, where you can see the weavers in action and maybe even purchase a rug for your home - so you’ll always have a piece of Morocco with you! Our day’s journey ends in the city of Ouarzazate - a famous site for movies and TV series - many of which you’ll recognize. Enjoy an overnight in a beautiful hotel with a swimming pool, some Moroccan wine, and a hot shower to wash off the sand.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 5: Return to Marrakech

After breakfast, we’ll start making our way back to Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas Mountains once again, with a few sites to see on the way. Expect to arrive back in Marrakech late afternoon. We'll check in to a hotel in the new city (Gueliz) where you'll have some down time to grab a local dinner (we can recommend a few places that are walking distance) and prepare for your next journey - to home or wherever that may be!

Meals included: Breakfast & Lunch
